West Bengal to targets tourists from non-metros

West Bengal has ambitious targets related to its tourism sector and plans to promote state tourism in non-metros across the country, a senior official of the West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation said.

“We have had our promotion activities in Nagpur and Indore. In the next two years, we plan to visit many Indian cities like Bhubaneswar Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Surat, Chandigarh, et cetera,” said Amitava Ghosh, deputy general manger (Reservation and IT), WBTDC, said at a promotional event in Indore.

Also, the state plans to come up with a new tourism policy by January 2016, he added.

The budgetary provision of the state for tourism has seen a major growth from Rs 11.57 crore in 2010-11 to Rs 257 crore in 2015-16, officials said.
 

West Bengal is the fourth most preferred tourist destination for international tourists, and the ninth most for domestic tourists, they claimed.
