40% of e-waste is recycled: MAIT-GTZ study

However, only 19,000 metric tonne of this is recycled and it is estimated that e-waste generated in India will touch 4.7 lakh metric tonne by 2011.
The study jointly conducted by the Manufacturers' Association of Information Technology and GTZ shows that of the total e-waste generated, computers generate almost 56,000 metric tonne.
About 40 per cent of the e-waste is recycled while the rest 60 per cent remains in warehouses or storehouses due to poor and inefficient collection system.
