Goa accounts for 90 percent of the total chartered tourist traffic in India, even as the country is emerging as the fastest civil aviation market in the world, Minister for Civil Aviation Ajit Singh said here Tuesday.
Ajit Singh was speaking at a function at the Dabolim airport, 30 km from the capital, held to mark the launch of a new integrated terminal building.
"Goa accounts for 90 percent of India's international charter flight traffic. In 2013, over 1,000 charters landed in Goa. It was a 45 percent increase from last year," he said.
"Currently India ranks ninth in the world as far as civil aviation markets are concerned," Singh said.
Civil aviation and tourism accounted for 3.6 percent of the national Gross Domestic Product, he said.
