Ap Cong Calls For Statewide Bandh Today

BSCAL

Unperturbed by the sudden change in the political situation in the country, the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has decided to go ahead with its plan to organise a state-wide bandh today in protest against the ruling Telugu Desams failure to uphold and implement its poll promises, including the dry law.

There is no change in our plan to organise the bandh, the newly-elected APCC president P Malikarjun said and added that all the district Congress committees (DCC) chiefs, legislators and party workers were busy making preparations to make the bandh a success.

Mallikarjun, who played a prominent role in the Telangana agitation in early 70s, said that he would not go to Delhi in view of the changed political scenario at the Centre following the Congress withdrawal of support to the UF government but would remain here in view of the bandh call.

This is the first agitational programme to be organised after the former Union minister took over as the leader of the APCC last month.

As a prelude to the bandh, a scooter rally was organised by the state Congress legislature party in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

The main focus of the bandh would be to highlight the miserable failure of the TDP government in continuing its election promises including dry law, Rs two a kg rice scheme and power subsidy to the farmers.

Meanwhile, the NTR-TDP-LP, in league with the BJP and Samata parties, has also called for a state-wide bandh today to protest against the TDP backtracking on poll promises.
