Assembly Seats: 10

Since all the ten seats were under the Janata Dal belt, any setback might have serious consequences for Yadav. He is at a loss for words when asked why his Left allies are not supporting Janata Dal candidates in all the 10 seats. The CPI state secretariat is supporting the Samajwadi party candidate Ramswarath Rai in Belsand, and K D Yadav of the CPI-ML in Paliganj.

The main issue involved in the byelections in the state is aptly summed up by leader of the opposition Sushil Modi: The byelections will be contested between the forces opposing scamsters and those patronising them.
