Reports from district headquarters said that while some big shops, business establishments remained closed, factories and financial institutions functioned as usual.

State unit BJP president Suresh Pujari, however, claimed that the bandh was "unprecedented" with people from all walks of life extending their support.

The BJP activists marched in a procession to the district collectors office and submitted a memorandum to the President expressing concern over the price rise.

They held the Congress-led UPA government responsible for the rise in the price of all essential commodities.
