Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani, an independent university, along with Birla Institute of Technology and Science Alumni Association, its global alumni association in the US, has launched a cross-campus technology initiative named BITSConnect 2.0.
The project is valued at $5 million and connects more 1,000 faculty and students across its campuses.
The initiative comprises immersive telepresence, high-definition video conferencing and live streaming technologies to transform the learning experience by connecting all campuses.
BITS Pilani would offer more than 14 specialised electives to 1,000 students by professors working from any of its three campuses in India.
“The faculty and staff will no longer have to travel, and academicians from across the world will be able to collaborate and mentor research projects through this initiative,” VS Rao, director of BITS-Pilani, Hyderabad Campus, told mediapersons here on Wednesday.
BITSConnect 2.0, the university-alumni initiative, was launched simultaneously at Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad campuses, while being connected to Cisco’s offices in San Jose and Boston, according to him.
