Ruling BJP in state has convened its legislature party meeting here on December 7. This is the first meeting being held after D V Sadananda Gowda took over as Chief Minister on August 4. Sources in the BJP said the legislature party would debate on the political situation that has unfolded in the aftermath of Bellary (rural) by-election in which its former leader B Sreeramulu won as an independent.
The issue of revolt in BJP in its Bellary unit and suspension of six elected representatives including two MPs on charges of anti-party activities would also come up for debate, they said.
The meeting will also be deliberating on facing the opposition parties attack in the ongoing legislature session. The meeting would decide on appointing new Chief Whip in the Assembly to fill up the vacancy caused by the resignation of B N Jeevaraj.
BJP MLA from Theradal constituency Siddu Savadi’s name is doing rounds for the post of Chief Whip, they said. The strategies to be adopted for the December 22 by-election to the lone Legislative Council seat, which Gowda will be contesting, will also come up for discussion at the meeting, they said.
The Election Commission issued notification for the bypoll on Monday.
