Party spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said that the party was going into the details of the donation. "In most cases donations have been accepted on face value and we have not verified as to who signed the checque etc," he said.
After the incident came to light, however, Rudy says the party will be putting in place certain modalities to check the background of donors to the party, so as to escape such embarassment in the future.
Earlier, documents made public under the Right to Information (RTI) Act revealed that the party had taken $2500 from Dow chemicals.
The information was disclosed by the Election Commission of India. Incidentally, BJP is one of the first parties to accept donations by checque in a bid to improve probity in political funding.
