Centre allows fertiliser production using naphtha

BS Reporter Chennai
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has allowed three fertiliser plants to produce urea using naphtha till September-end. These are Madras Fertilisers plant in Manali, Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilisers Ltd, Mangalore, and Southern Petrochemical Industries Corporation's Tuticorin unit.

Under the Modified New Pricing Scheme-Ill for existing urea units, the three naphtha-based units were earlier allowed to produce urea from naphtha as feedstock till June 30, 2014.

The move will enable these fertiliser units to continue urea production for the next three months and help in meeting farmer requirement for urea in the current kharif season.

In a statement, Union government stated all stakeholders, including farmers and urea manufacturers, would be benefited by this.
