Chhattisgarh government will construct a new road with an estimated cost of Rs 100 crore to connect the city with the airport.
The 7.8 kilometres road would be 10.5 meter wide and would run parallel to the existing road that connects the state capital city with the airport. The picturesque road with trees on both the sides is also known as VIP road.
Seeing the traffic pressure, the state government decided to widen the road. The big trees on both the sides of the road came as a hurdle as the authorities were in no mood to cut it down for the project.
“The trees are the beauty of the road and the road is one of its kind in the capital city to have picturesque look,” a senior official with state’s public works department said. Hence the authorities looked for an option to avoid cutting down the trees, he added. After conducting survey in the area, the department worked out on a plan to construct a new road parallel to the existing one. The state government had given its consent and the PWD had started work on the project.
The officials said that the measurement work was going on to start land acquisition process at the earliest. The construction work was likely to start soon after the monsoon, they added. After the construction of new road, the authorities had planned to make the existing road one-way.
