The first phase of the perform, achieve and trade (PAT) mechanism, the flagship of the National Mission on Enhanced Energy Efficiency, is expected to start in the three to four weeks. The mechanism, which was to start from April 1, was delayed due to various reasons. “Currently, it’s with the Ministry of Law and once it gets the clearance, then all the industries will be notified,” Ajay Mathur, director general of Bureau of Energy Efficiency said here recently. There are about 477 large units, which consume 35 per cent of the total energy used in the country. Once the scheme is notified, it will be mandatory for all these units to reduce energy consumption at a certain level.
