The government’s fiscal deficit at the end of January 2011 was Rs 2.75 lakh crore, representing 68.6 per cent of the budget estimate (BE) of Rs 3.81 lakh crore for the year. It was Rs 3.8 lakh crore in April-February of 2009-10, or 92 per cent of the BE for the year.
Revenue deficit during the first 11 months in 2010-11 was 74.4 per cent of the BE at Rs 2 lakh crore, compared with 96 per cent in the year-before period. Net tax receipts were Rs 4.6 lakh crore and total spending was Rs 9.78 lakh crore.
Non-tax revenue in April-February was Rs 2.09 lakh crore.
