BS Reporter Hyderabad

The foundation stone for the mega food park, implemented by Srini Food Park Private Limited, was laid on Sunday by union minister for food processing industries Subodh Kant Sahay.

The project, promoted by a group of NRI investors and local food processors, is coming up at Bangarupalam mandal in Chittoor district at an estimated cost of Rs 250 crore. The food park would create infrastructure to facilitate integrated value chain with forward and backward linkages. It would have facilities for farm level collection and primary processing. It envisages direct and indirect employment to 30,000 rural youth.

The park would work with food processing centres in Chittoor, Kadapa, Anantapur and Nellore districts. It would process about 150,000 tonne mango, tomato, tamarind, papaya, guava, banana, sweet lime and others, a release said.
