Guj HC notice to state govt over PIL on right to education

The Gujarat High Court on Thursday issued notice to the state government and the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) over a public interest litigation (PIL) alleging that primary school children were being deprived of their fundamental right to education with insufficient number of teachers in government schools.

A division bench of Chief Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya and Justice J B Pardiwala, after preliminary hearing of the PIL issued notice to the state government through the secretary of education department, Director of Primary Education and AMC and directed them to file their respective replies before September 12.

The PIL filed by one Mohammad Kamil Mohammad Islam Ansari has sought direction to the authorities to recruit and appoint sufficient number of teachers in AMC run primary schools.
 

He has said in the petition that PIL has been filed in interest of children of primary schools, more particularly the students of municipal schools of Urdu medium of class I to V and class VI to VIII in the city of Ahmedabad who are deprived of their fundamental right of education under Article 21-A of the Constitution of India in absence of sufficient teachers required to be recruited under the provisions of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009.
