Hawkers under mayor place fresh curbs on Spencer`s

The hawkers union imposed clauses which, Spencer's claims, have been adhered to keeping in mind the interests of the hawkers in Gariahat.

According to a statement issued by Spencer's, this was hurting customers. For example, the company cannot sell any merchandize below Rs 300 in the men's and women's wear segments. Loose onion and potato is subject to a min purchase of 5 Kgs while loose tomato is subject to a min purchase of 3 Kgs.

 

The other items would be sold in branded packs and will be priced at par with the local market. The clauses were shutting out small buyers preferring to buy at the store owing to the intervention of the hawkers.
