Residents of Andal and surrounding villages alleged they were not given proper price for 1,024 acres of land acquired to set up a 1000 Mw thermal power plant.

Neither were they offered jobs. Only after Ramesh assured them that he would discuss the matter with high officials of the DVC, the villagers ended their demonstration near the proposed plant's site lasting 10 minutes.

He also met the INTUC and other workers union leaders in a hotel at Durgapur today before visiting the under-construction power plant today with state power minister Mrinal Banerjee and DVC chairman Asim Barman.

The power plant is likely to start production by 2010.
