The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas is expected to hold a meeting on Wednesday to work out the details of expanding the distribution network of major LPG companies across the country.

"Tomorrow we have a final meeting in the ministry to work out on this - how many new distributorships we should come out with, what should be the basis, should we take the Census of 2001, which we have taken last time, etc," M Nene, chairman of IndianOil-Petronas Pvt Ltd and director (Marketing), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, told reporters here on Tuesday.

The companies had earlier planned to add 6,000 to 7,000 distributorships. "The distributors should be economically viable and there should be enhanced customer service and satisfaction," he added.

The company also plans to connect its gas bottling plants to the source, which otherwise are transported through road after bottling the gas in cylinders. For instance, from the new terminal launched at Ennore, the company would connect to places like Trichy and Madurai.

"We are also exploring possibilities of connecting the same terminal to Bangalore," he said.
