Peak power demand of irrigation pumps used by farmers in Rabi season has touched 2,000 Mw. The demand in the state has gone up to 7,000 Mw and shortage will remain in the range of 1,500-2,200 Mw, against the claims of state officials that in next 15 days, the shortage will be over once the maintenance exercise of various thermal power stations got over. “This year demand has touched 7,000 Mw and availability is likely to reach 6,650 Mw as better maintenance and power banking of 900 Mw,” an official said. The power banking though has gone down from 1,500 Mw to 900 Mw during the last few months.
