Nabard MD reviews progress in Kerala

The successful implementation of the Agricultural Debt Waiver and Debt Relief Scheme calls for three major steps "" correct debt assessment and data submission, writing off actual eligible amounts and issue of fresh loans to the farmers, KG Karmakar, managing director, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard), said here.

He said the list of eligible farmers should be completed by June 15, 2008. Karmakar, was here to review the progress in implementation of the scheme.

He pointed out that banks need to make it doubly sure to have accurate data of the eligible farmers and also to have two levels of checking "" internally as well as with the help of auditors of the Cooperation Department. Karmakar also visited a few branches of district cooperative banks, RRBs and commercial banks
