Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday directed speeding up of the process of rural electrification and called for stern action against power theft as he reviewed the progress in projects in energy sector at a meeting.
He reviewed the progress towards targets in power and coal sectors, a Prime Minister’s Office statement (PMO) said.
The Prime Minister specifically reviewed the progress made in rural electrification and called for speeding up the process, so as to achieve 100 per cent electrification, state-wise, progressively, in a well-defined time frame, it said.

Reiterating his commitment to renewable energy, he called for accelerating the implementation of renewable energy projects, the statement said.
Senior officials from the ministries concerned, NITI Aayog and PMO were present at the meeting.
