Seeking to expedite consultations and decision making process, the Revenue Department has asked tax officials to regularly check their emails and acknowledge the correspondence.
The nodal officers should "be instructed to regularly check their emails and quickly acknowledge the same and send requisite responses without delay," said an official communication to all chief commissioners of Income Tax.
The communication by the CBDT noted that emails sent to nodal officers from time to time remain unacknowledged and therefore it was not possible to ascertain whether communication had reached them.
The department has also sought the email ids of nodal officers.
These instructions are expected to streamline the working of the revenue department by improving communication between different levels of tax authorities.
This is also a part of the exercise to move towards paperless working culture.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) collects personal income tax, corporate tax and wealth tax.
In the Budget 2014-15, the direct tax collection target Rs 7,36,221 crore, up 15.70 per cent over 2013-14.
