Government employees, teachers, students and workers of public sector undertakings among others are expected to take part in the 'Sakala Janula Samme' (strike by all people) being observed by the Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) from Tuesday.
TJAC, comprising representatives of various pro-Telangana outfits, has called for the general strike to mount pressure on the Centre to accord separate statehood for the Telangana region.
The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), which is spearheading the separate statehood movement, held a massive rally in Karimnagar on Monday as a run up to the indefinite strike.
Leaders of the government employees asserted that they would take part in the strike even though the government had indicated that it would apply 'no work, no pay rule.'
The strike will bring normal life to a halt," TJAC convenor Kondandaram said adding the agitation would be intensified till the demand for separate statehood was conceded.
