Tamil Nadu govt hikes milk price by Rs 10
The price increase will be effective from November 1
The Tamil Nadu government has decided to increase Aavin milk price by Rs 10 a litre. The price increase will be effective from November 1. The current price of Aavin milk per litre is Rs 24.
Aavin is the trademark of the Tamil Nadu Co-operative Milk Producers' Federation Limited. Despite the steep increase, the Aavin milk will continue to be the low-priced compared to private players, said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Paneerselvam, in a statement.
"In order to meet the increased expenses (milk procurement and processing), the government has felt the need to increase the price of milk for monthly card holders," said the chief minister.
While blaming the DMK government for having left the state-run milk supplier in a bad financial condition, the chief minister said the state government so far bailed out Aavin by lending Rs 192 crore.
