Country's largest software service firm Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) plans to double its headcount to about 9,000 at its Bhubaneswar facility.
“We have the opportunity to expand for Phase III and Phase IV here. Eventually, we will double the headcount at some point of time. The Phase-II inaugurated will add a capacity for 3500 people," said N Chandrasekaran, CEO and MD of the IT major told media persons.
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik today inaugurated the Phase II of the TCS Kalinga Park. With the expansion, TCS will now have an operational capacity of 4,500 seats. The second phase expansion is spread over 4,00,000 square feet.
Presently, TCS has an employee strength of around 2,500 at Bhubaneswar. By the end of December 2016, it plans to ramp up its headcount to 4,000.
Chandrasekaran did not divulge the timeline for the third and fourth phase expansion.

“We are also expanding the number of students recruited from the state. We are now recruiting the 2500 graduates from the institutions in Odisha”, he added.
TCS started its operation in Odisha in 2009 with a capacity of 1000 professionals in the first phase.The TCS Kalinga park campus is an approved special economic zone (SEZ) and serves global TCS customers in industry segments like banking and financial services, retail, telecom, manufacturing and government. The Kalinga Park campus developed over 45 acres of land is an addition to the company’s unique Global Network Delivery Model.
Speaking at the occasion Patnaik said: “Odisha is a leading state in the IT revolution of our country. It is priority sector of the state government. We will spend around Rs 4,000 crore from the state budget for the next five years.”
Industrial Policy Resolution 2015 and the new ICT policy 2014 provides a congenial business environment and investor friendly policy framework with a slew of attractive fiscal incentives and concessions to make Odisha a preferred IT destination. To encourage young entrepreneurs the state government is working towards establishing more STPIs (Software Technology Parks of India) in Odisha.
Bhubaneswar has equally made good progress in IT SEZ sector too. In order to promote such industries, IT SEZs are established at Infocity and Infovalley in Bhubaneswar, Patnaik added.
