Union demands revised sugarcane prices, threatens agitation

The Bharatiya Kisan Union has threatened to launch an agitation for sugarcane growers if the current sugarcane prices are not revised by the state government.
Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) president Mahender Singh Tikait has alleged that the state government, under pressure from sugar mill owners, is not announcing sugarcane prices.
Rejecting sugar mill owners' claims that they cannot raise the prices, BKU has demanded that prices be fixed on the basis of sugar rates, he said.
BKU has warned of launching an agitation if the state government fails to fix reasonable prices for sugarcane growers in the state, he added.
