When private road builders hit a bump

The road transport & highways ministry has decided to discontinue awarding projects in the private-public partnership (PPP) mode during the current financial year, in the wake of poor response from the private sector.

It will now award 5,000 km this year under the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) mode, where the contractor is funded by the government. Business Standard looks at the status of projects awarded since 2001, when the first build-operate-transfer (BOT) project was awarded under the NHDP
