Yields On Gilts Continue To Decline

THE yield on gilts continue to fall despite the increasing market borrowings of the government. The weighted average cost of government borrowings dropped by almost one percentage point during the last fiscal to 10.95 per cent from 11.77 per cent in 1999-2000.
According to market players, there was, however, a surprise element in the falling yields on government borrowings during the current fiscal.
