Act East Policy

The Act East Policy (AEP) focuses on the extended neighbourhood in the Asia-Pacific region. AEP provides an interface between India and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region. The policy which was originally conceived as an economic initiative, has gained political, strategic and cultural dimensions. On the domestic front, the Government has taken measures for time bound completion of critical infrastructure projects in the North Eastern Region (NER) relating to road, rail, inland water transport, power, airports and telecom connectivity.

This was stated by the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh in written reply to a question by Shri Ninong Ering in the Lok Sabha today.
