Ministry of Food Processing Industries is not implementing any Scheme for development of Agricultural Parks in the country. However, it is implementing a Mega Food Parks Scheme for development of modern infrastructure for food processing sector in the country. A total of 42 Mega Food Parks have been approved by the Government for setting-up in the country. Out of these, 21 Mega Food Parks have been accorded final approval and are at various stages of implementation while 4 projects are in the process of meeting the conditions of final approval.
The Ministry has already accorded Final Approval to a Mega Food Park in Karnataka at Tumkur which is nearing completion. Further, in response to the Expression of Interest (EoI)/proposal invited by the Ministry on 10.02.2014 to fill up the existing vacancies of Mega Food Parks, a total 72 proposals have been received for setting-up Mega Food Parks in various parts of the country including 3 proposals from Karnataka. These proposals are being appraised by the Ministry.
This information was given by the Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
