Interest of Workers and their Social Security is of Prime Importance - Says Labour & Employment Minister Shri Bandaru Dattatreya

The Union Minister of State (IC) Labour and Employment Shri Bandaru Dattatreya has reviewed of the working of ESI Scheme, while making his first visit to ESI Corporation, Hqrs. Office, New Delhi on 18.11.2014. Shri Dattatreya presided over a meeting of senior officers of ESIC. Shri A.K. Agarwal, Director General, ESIC and other senior officers apprised the Minister about the salient features of working of the scheme.

While addressing the officers, Shri Dattatreya called upon them to take care of the interest of the workers and their social security. He asked the medical officers to treat the patients belonging to the working class in such a way that they feel comfortable. He directed the management to simplify the procedure for availing superspeciality facility in ESI Hospitals.

While appreciating the coverage aspects of ESIC, he said that 93 per cent of India's workforce who belong to the unorganised sector are beyond the scope of the ESI Scheme. The Minister also appreciated weekly review of the projects presently conducted by ESIC. He further directed that the targets must be met by increasing efficienecy especially at the lower level. Shri Dattatreya said that the Labour & Employment Ministry is a sensitive ministry and one should feel proud to serve in such a department. He asked the officers to serve Insured Persons with 'Seva Bhav'. He also exhorted the officers to have a pro-labour attitude and create a good image for their organization by changing the perception among the massess.
