Revamping of IOC

The Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Sarbananda Sonowal has said that Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is an autonomous body registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. IOA is the National Olympic Committee for India, recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today Shri Sonowal said, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports has issued various directions from time to time to National Sports Federations including IOA for bringing in good governance and transparency in functioning of sports bodies. These include guidelines on age and tenure restrictions, mandatory disclosure of information, conduct of elections etc.
