At least four Taliban militants were killed when an explosive device went off prematurely in Afghanistan Thursday, the police said.

"Four Taliban rebels were planting a mine on a road in Ghazni province to target security personnel but the device exploded accidentally, killing all four on the spot," the provincial police chief told Xinhua.

The incident took place at 1 p.m., he said.
