Sindh High Court will today hear a petition that seeks contempt of court proceedings against Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
The court admitted the petition for hearing on Saturday after a civil rights campaigner, Mehmood Akhtar Naqvi, approached the court seeking initiation of contempt proceedings against the Prime Minister for reportedly using contemptuous language against Karachi judges.
The petitioner has stated that the Prime Minister in a statement said that "even judges were afraid of making decisions in Karachi".
The Chief Justice of the SHC also reacted to Sharif's statement this week, insisting the judges in Karachi were working without fear and bravely to bring justice to the people.
Recently, the Supreme Court of Pakistan initiated contempt of court proceedings against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf chief Imran Khan over a public statement, but the charges were later dismissed after the former Pakistan cricket team captain appeared before a full bench to plead his case.
