SC favours scrapping SSC 2017 exam; NTA likely to hold fresh test

The Supreme Court on Monday favoured scrapping of Staff Selection Commission (SSC) 2017 graduation-level examination. The case which involved leaked question papers ahead of the examination is under review and is likely to call for a fresh examination for all students who appeared for it. 

Around 190,000 students who appeared for the SCC examination between 17 and 22 February, this year, held a protest, seeking justice and clarification of the case. 

Calling it an unfair means, SC sought Central govt to take note on the issue, although no order has been passed so far.

Finding it hard to hit the rock-bottom of the case, the Supreme Court is of the view that the 'tainted' examination needs to be held afresh either by the National Testing Agency (NTA) or the CBSE. While the case is still under CBI's probe. 

"How to know about the number of beneficiaries if the integrity of the entire examination process is under suspicion", the bench told TOI.

The bench later clarified that the exam will be held afresh, in the interest of the students who conducted huge protest against the case.

The move is taken to make sure that the beneficiaries of the leaked question paper don't get into the system.

The bench also informed that the CBI needed some time to probe into the case, posting it for November 13.
