The Union Cabinet has approved setting up and operationalisation of six new IIMs at Amritsar (Punjab), Bodhgaya (Bihar), Nagpur (Maharashtra), Sambalpur (Odisha), Sirmaur (Himachal Pradesh), and Vishakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) from their temporary campuses.
The Mentor Institutes of the respective new IIMs have accordingly started taking admissions of students for Post Graduate Programme (PGP).
Initial funds have already been released to the Mentor Institutes to make the new Institutes functional from the current year 2015-16 from their temporary campuses.

The academic sessions of these new IIMs are commencing from the current year (2015-16).
“It is envisaged that new Institutes may begin with 140 students in their first PGP Course by selecting the students through Common Admission Test (CAT) being conducted by IIMs,” Union Minister of Human Resource Development, Zubin Irani said in Lok Sabha today.
