Asian markets open in red; Hang Seng plunges 3%

The Asian markets have opened on a negative note. The Hang Seng has plunged 562 points (3%) to 20,394.

The Nikkei has shed 256 points (2.5%) to 9,723.

The Straits Times and the Taiwan Weighted Index have dropped 1.6% each to 2,610 and 7,422, respectively.

The Seoul Composite has decreased 1.7% to 1,645.

The Shanghai Composite on the other hand is only marginally up at 2,780.
