Border Tension Ups Heroin Demand

The recent increase in patrolling on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border has become a bane for drug-traffickers, but has benefited domestic heroin manufacturers. Buyers from across the world are now turning to India for procuring the commodity.

In the capital, seizures of domestically manufactured heroin has also increased after the September 11 attack in the US, a senior official said.

Speaking to Business Standard, Rajiv Walia, deputy director-general of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) said:
