Jeera futures prices weakened by Rs 41 to Rs 15,498 per quintal today as speculators preferred to book profits at existing higher levels, driven by sluggish demand in the spot market.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for September delivery weakened by Rs 41, or 0.26%, to Rs 15,498 per quintal, with an open interest of 19,266 lots.

Likewise, the spice for August delivery shed Rs 39, or 0.26%, to Rs 15,055 per quintal, with a business turnover of 9,276 lots.

Market analysts said besides profit-booking by speculators, sluggish demand at the spot market also put pressure on the jeera futures prices.
