Provisional: Markets extend gains, oil shares lead

Markets extended gains to end higher on Friday amid renewed buying interest in index heavyweight Reliance Industries and exploration major ONGC. Further, resumption of buying by foreign institutional investors also helped improve sentiment.

The 30-share Sensex ended up 74 points at 19,485 and the 50-share Nifty ended up 28 points at 5,865.

In the oil and gas segment, Reliance Industries and ONGC were the top Sensex gainers, while HUL and ITC were the top gainers in the FMCG space.
