Rs 96.61 Crore Released For Drinking Water Project

The Ministry of Rural Development has released Rs 96.61 crore to various state governments as additional assistance for Pradhan Mantri Gramodaya Yojana (PMGY- Drinking Water) for the year 2001-2002.

These states are Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Chhatisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Mizoram, Nagaland, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal and West Bengal, an official statement said.

In the National Agenda for Governance, the government envisages provision of safe drinking water to all rural habitations in the country in five years, it said. To achieve this mandate, the ministry of rural development has developed a strategy involving achievement of full area coverage.

 

To achieve this end, the ministry will carry out a fresh survey to assess the exact extent of the quality problem, the release added.
