Sensex down 246pts; Hindalco slumps 10%

The Sensex opened with a negative gap of 237 points at 9,535. The index is now down 246 points at 9,526.

Hindalco has slumped 10% to Rs 48. Sterlite has plunged 6.7% to Rs 229.

HDFC Bank, SBI and Tata Steel have dropped around 5% each to Rs 1,018, Rs 1,262 and Rs 199, respectively.

Bharti Airtel has shed 4% at Rs 591. Grasim, ONGC and Tata Motors have slipped over 3.5% each to Rs 1,138, Rs 748 and Rs 188, respectively.

DLF and TCS have declined 3% each to Rs 260 and Rs 531, respectively.
