The Sensex has ended (provisional) at 17,158 - down 12 points.
The Nifty has ended (provisional) at 5,122.

A sudden bout of profit taking has dragged the markets into the red. The Sensex is now flat at 17,169 after touching a low of 17,128 - down 233 points from the day's high.
The Nifty is at 5,124.

The Sensex slipped sharply and is now up just 27 points at 17,197. The Nifty is up 10 points at 5,133.

News of the Union Cabinet's plans to clear the Pension Fund Regulatory & Development Authority (PFRDA) Bill today buoyed the market sentiment. Positive sentiments have helped the Sensex to gain further and touch a high of 17,361. The index is now off the day's high at 17,317 - up 148 points.
The Nifty touched its highest in over a month at 5,181 and is now trading at 5,162 - up 39 points.
All indices are in the green. Among them, the BSE metal, oil & gas and realty indices have aded over 1% each.

Reliance Communications gained 3% at Rs 180. Cement stocks have moved up on rising prices. Grasim has advanced 2.5% to Rs 2,447. ACC has jumped 2.3% to Rs 817.
ONGC has moved up 2% to Rs 1,210. Metal stocks have also gained. Sterlite and Hindalco have advanced 2% each to Rs 896 and Rs 146, respectively. Tata Steel has added 1.6% to Rs 585.
Other gainers in the Sensex include Maruti Suzuki, SBI, Wipro, Reliance and HDFC.

However, Tata Motors has continued to trade weak after orders for Nano were cancelled in bulks. The stock dipped 1.3% to Rs 720. Hindustan Unilever is down 1% at Rs 273.
The market breath continues to be positive. Out of 2,753 shares traded 1,829 have advanced while 846 have declined.
VALUE & VOLUME TOPPERS...
Satyam Computers has topped the value chart with a turnover of Rs 97.79 crore on the BSE, followed by Bharati Shipyard (Rs 78.58 crore), Jet Airways (Rs 75.22 crore), Unitech (Rs 74.94 crore) and SBI (Rs 70.92 crore).
The volume chart is being led by Satyam Compuers as well with trades of over 10.14 million shares, followed by Unitech (8.27 million), Spicejet (7.31 million) and Karuturi Global (6.75 millon).
