Sensex extends gains; Jaiprakash, Tata Power soar

The Sensex has extended gains and is now up 206 points at 10,165 on the back of fresh buying in select heavyweights. Earlier in the day, the index had opened with a positive gap of 152 points at 10,110.

Jaiprakash Associates has zoomed nearly 8% to Rs 94. Tata Power soared nearly 7% to Rs 823, and Sterlite has surged 6.5% to Rs 293.

Reliance has gained 4.5% at Rs 1,341. ONGC, Reliance Infrastructure and ICICI Bank have rallied 4.3% each to Rs 709, Rs 657 and Rs 491, respectively.

Reliance Communications and HDFC have moved up 4% each to Rs 261 and Rs 1,606, respectively.

 

Larsen & Toubro and Hindalco have added 3.3% each to Rs 850 and Rs 58, respectively.

Tata Steel, SBI and Infosys are up around 3% each at Rs 237, Rs 1,368 and Rs 1,162, respectively.

Satyam has slumped 6% to Rs 167. Bharti Airtel and Hindustan Unilever have shed 3% each at Rs 684 and Rs 241, respectively.

NTPC is down 1% at Rs 182.

The market breadth is fairly positive - out of 2,481 stocks traded so far, 1,646 have advanced, 761 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
