Sensex pares gains, up 640pts; breadth fairly +ve

After touching a high of 9,859, the Sensex has pared some gains and is now up 640 points at 9,685.

HDFC has zoomed over 13% to Rs 1,701, and Mahindra & Mahindra has soared 12% to Rs 339.

Tata Power, ICICI Bank and Reliance have surged around 11% each to Rs 685, Rs 383 and Rs 1,333, respectively.

Wipro, HDFC Bank and Tata Steel have rallied around 10% each to Rs 283, Rs 1,040 and Rs 206, respectively.

Sterlite has gained 9.7% at Rs 271, and Hindalco has moved up nearly 9% to Rs 58.

ACC and TCS have advanced around 8% each to Rs 513 and Rs 586, respectively.

 

Jaiprakash Associates and Tata Motors are up nearly 8% each at Rs 66 and Rs Rs 170, respectively.

The market breadth is fairly positive - out of 2,145 stocks traded so far, 1,449 have advanced, 637 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
