Sugar up 0.5% on pick up in demand hopes

Sugar futures for April traded Rs 16, or 0.54%, higher at Rs 2,963 per quintal in 28,870 lots.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX), the far-month May contract gained Rs 9, or 0.30%, to Rs 3,003 per quintal in 25,240 lots.
Prices rose as speculators enlarged their positions on hopes that demand may pick up on the back of summer season.
However, ample supplies against subdued spot markets demand limited the upside.
