Vegetable oil imports in April was down by 29.23% compared to the same period last year to 654,827 tonne as stocks lying at the port are high, according to data released by Solvent Extractors Association.
Edible oil imports during the month of April stood at 641,327 tonne and non edible oils stood at 13,500 tonne.
The total over all imports of edible oils during the year however was up by 12% to 5,279,505 tonne compared to 4,714,963 tonne last year from November to April.
"Stock of edible oils as on 1 May at various ports reduced due to fall in import during April and estimated at 670,000 tonne (CPO 350,000 tonne, RBD Palmolein 175,000 tonne, Degummed Soybean Oil 60,000 tonne, Crude Sunflower Oil 85,000 tonnes) and about 1,150,000 tonne in pipelines. Total stock, both at ports is 1,820,000 tonne compared to 2,100,000 tonne in the previous month," SEA said in a press release.
