One in five Americans will reportedly become rich for parts of their lives by earning at least 100,000 dollars a year, a new survey reveals.

According to the survey released by Bankrate.com, the income gap among Americans has widened by 10 percent nationwide over the past 20 years, Fox News reports.

Bankrate reports the income gap in America is growing fastest among 35 to 44 years of age at a rate of 21 percent between 1992 and 2012.

According to the report, the two major factors contributing to the widening income gap are women increasingly becoming the household breadwinner and a growing immigrant population.

The U.S. employers have also sent millions of jobs overseas, specifically in the manufacturing and service sectors, because of which many people had to compensate by taking lower-paying jobs, the report added.
