The new Afghan government is set to sign an agreement today that would authorize a reduced contingent of the U.S. troops to stay in the country beyond 2014.
The Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA) would be signed by a senior minister, reported the BBC.
Previous Afghan president, Hamid Karzai had refused to sign the deal that had strained the country's ties with the U.S.
Most NATO forces would be withdrawn this year, leaving 9,800 U.S. troops behind.
