Despite a fighting England suffering a 1-0 series defeat to Sri Lanka on Tuesday, a determined skipper Alastair Cook has said he will continue to lead the side, and added that he never quits on anything.
Speaking after his side was defeated off the penultimate ball of the second Test at Headingley, Cook, who has been in awful form, said he was incredibly proud to be England captain, and that he was in it for the long haul.
He said he was desperate to turn the fortunes of English cricket around, and believed he is still the right man for the job.
However, he also said if the ECB decides that he is not the right person, then he would resign.
Cook has scored only 601 runs in his past 24 innings at an average of 25, and has been criticised for England's tactics in the field during this series.
Cook has played 104 Tests, scored 8,125 runs at an average of 45.90 and made a record 25 centuries for England.
England lost the match by 100 runs. It came in the cruellest fashion, with number 11 James Anderson falling to the fifth ball of the final over. Anderson was in tears after the game, but survived for 20 overs with Moeen Ali, who made an unbeaten 108, batting through the day to take England from 57-5 to 249 all out.
